CONNEXION WITH GLOBALIZATION
CLAIMS OF IDEOLOGICAL GLOBALIZATION
When it comes to advocate globalism, five important claims are remaining in a Steger point of view.
-The first one is: globalization is about the liberalization and global integration of markets.
-The second one is: globalization is inevitable and irreversible , throughout the 20th century, liberals and conservatives criticized Marxism that till then was very popular. Due to technological advancement the market forces are spreading which makes globalization irreversible.
-Thirdly: nobody is in charge of globalization, people have to understand that the market forces and the technology is guiding globalization, it is guide by the invisible hand.
-Claim number 4: globalization benefits everyone. This lies at the base of globalization and it’s answering the question if it’s bad or good. It provides rising global living standards, economic efficiency, individual freedom and technological process!
-Last claim: globalization furthers the spread of democracy in the world by that claim we learn that democracy and free markets have synonymous meaning. Countries that share trades have similar ideas on economy and politics. (Steger, M globalization chap.6 para 10-13-19-23-32)
Globalizers such as Barack Obama present the liberalization and integration of global market as “natural” phenomena. Obama is including those ideology claims with his political plans, we can see it with one of his major claims: double the American exports over the next five years. The president set a goal for the creation of 1 million new manufacturing jobs by 2016, to proceed he is promoting U.S goods and he’s removing trade barriers to make his plans work. Obama is also making the United State on the global market bigger by creating a new trade enforcement unit that will address China’s trade practices. Even if globalization isn’t the charge of anybody, Obama administration gives it a push with those projects. (Barack Obama.com innovation para. 1)
POLITICAL GLOBALIZATION
Still from Steger point of view, political globalization is the intensification and expansion of political relations worldwide. Each country has their own political system that depends on their culture, their history and their values. Even if each country rules it’s own government, we see a lot of interference between countries, for example, during the cold war, there was two sides: communism and capitalism ruled by Russia and United States, those two countries literally took over the world to established their ideas in the most countries possible. Or another example is the United Nation that intervenes when they feel they have to. Those types of interference can lead to global governance. (. (Steger, M globalization chap. 4)
One of the most popular Obama administration project was to prevent Iran from creating or having nuclear bomb. It is foreign policy for United States and it is interference with political governance of Iran, Obama decided that Iran wouldn’t have any nuclear material before if they had those kind of equipment, Obama would feel like the U.S threatening, those kind of thoughts process have been developed because of the terrorist attack of 2001. What permits Obama to act respond to middle East is his army, the biggest in the world with their budget of almost 600 billions $U.S. We know that Al-Quaeda and his chief Ossama Ben Laden directed the terrorist attack that surprised New York, and it’s under the mandate of Obama that they killed him to revenge their country. (France.tv 2014, para. 3 )
Another promised from his first mandate, Barack Obama wants to remove all the U.S troops in Afghanistan after 13 years there. It's also part of his foreign policy, he finished Bush's objectives. (Starr, B. CNN politics 2014 para. 14)
