The first black president of the United States In 2008, Barack Obama was the first Afro-American to become president of the United States. A racial barrier had just fallen in the political world. He won because his message reached out to so many people, not only black people but all of the minorities. That day, when Barack Obama was elected president, a racial barrier had fallen. A change just had been done in politic. In his victory speech, Obama said: “If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer,”(NAGOURNEY. Adam, 2008, par. 6) Presidents have always been white and now it was about to change it gave hope in so many ways. At first, it was exceptional because a minority had just become the president, it could be represented like hope for minority. It was also represented has hope for the country, for a better country. The nation’s reputation had once been stained by the injustice of the country but the election did prove that man had evolved.
